Senior baritone player and band Vice President Ava Kmetz has been selected to participate in the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony Group 1, which is the highest-level possible for high school band musicians. The Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony is the premier youth wind ensemble in Northeast Ohio.
Kmetz’ selection required an audition, where Ava proved her ability to be included among Greater Cleveland's best high school band musicians. As a member of Group 1, she will have the opportunity to play college-level wind ensemble music and perform in some of the most beautiful and prestigious venues in Cleveland, including Severance Music Center and the Maltz Performing Arts Center.
“While I love Cuyahoga Heights Bands and all of the opportunities it has given me to grow as a musician, there truly is nothing like playing in this ensemble,” said Ava. “The amount of pure, raw talent from the peers around me is groundbreaking. I am incredibly fortunate to be considered on the same level of technique as them.”
Ava added that she is most excited about performing at venues such as Severance Music Center. “I’m also excited for my family members to see me perform – not only for my older family members, but also my younger cousins and siblings. I hope it inspires them to have a deeper appreciation for music,” she concluded.
“Ava is an outstanding high school baritone player who holds herself to the highest of musical standards every day. I'm always impressed by her curiosity, leadership skills, and dedication to the band,” said Noah Hamrich, band director. “She sets an example that will impact the music programs for years to come, and I'm very proud of all she has accomplished.”Ava's first performance with the Cleveland Youth Wind Ensemble will take place on November 25 at 7:30 pm at Severance Music Center. Congratulations, Ava!
