Second Graders Perform "Go Fish".

Cuyahoga Heights Elementary School second graders’ annual performance of “Go Fish” was another splashing success. The children performed the beloved show for their parents and family members in the Paul L. Baumgardner Auditorium on Friday morning, February 28. The performance was directed by science teacher Barb Currey with music teacher Angelo Bartolone serving as musical director.

To get ready for their stage performance, the students listened to the true story of how a fisherman named Jose Alvarenga was shipwrecked and drifted on the ocean for a full year. He survived by collecting rainwater and eating fish. “They researched their assigned fish role in library class, practiced the songs in music class, and memorized their lines in the science room… and with help from home,” said Currey. In addition to singing the five original songs, each student had his or her own rhyming speaking part to perform. Students will visit the Cleveland Aquarium in April to see their fish they portrayed in “schools of their own,” said Currey. As always, the audience had a whale of a good time!
