Cuyahoga Heights High School (CHHS) senior Sophia Kish is making the most of her time in the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center’s (CVCC) Digital Design program under the guidance of instructor Melissa Munro. Inspired by her parents – her mother is a fine artist and her father is talented in music – Sophia has made remarkable strides in enhancing and expanding her creative abilities. One of those strides is in using Adobe Creative Cloud, a suite of software applications and resources for graphic design, photography, and other creative endeavors.
A standout moment for her has been competing in Business Professionals of America and SkillsUSA. She took First Place in Photography at the SkillsUSA regional competition and will compete in the Visual Design Competition at the state level later this month.
Meanwhile, Sophia is gaining valuable hands-on experience through CVCC’s Work-Based Learning program at Eaglestone Products in Parma, a leading manufacturer of ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)-compliant interior signage. She discovered this opportunity on Indeed, a web-based job matching and hiring platform, and is helping to produce ADA-regulated signs, utilizing her creative skills in a real-world setting.
Outside of class, Sophia is continually refining her skills through the CHHS Art Club. She particularly enjoys sculpture design and graphite art. After graduation, Sophia plans to attend Bowling Green State University, majoring in Graphic Design at the School of Art. She aspires to work in package design, where she can combine her artistic talents with branding and marketing.
Sophia encourages students considering attending CVCC to take full advantage of the learning opportunities available. “CVCC offers so much knowledge and experience,” she noted. “My time here has solidified my passion for the arts, particularly graphic design, which I’ll be pursuing in college."
